Sophie Abbott is a dedicated family lawyer originally from Adelaide. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Adelaide. She joined SBFL in mid 2026 after spending the first few years of her legal career practising family law at a national firm.

Sophie brings a thoughtful, client-focused approach to family law, informed by her broad life experience and strong commitment to supporting people through change. She understands that families come in many forms and is committed to creating a safe and supportive space for clients, coupled with her skilful advocacy.

“I believe family law is about people, possibility and belonging. I’m particularly passionate about working with modern families and advising on LGBTQIA+ rights, assisted reproduction, surrogacy and donor conception, helping clients build and protect the families they envision.”

Alongside her broad family law practice encompassing all aspects of property and parenting, Sophie also practises in fertility law, supporting intended parents, donors and surrogates through the legal complexities involved in building a family. She is known for her empathy, warmth and strong advocacy.

Outside of work, Sophie has many and varied interests, but in particular she likes to run “for fun”.
